Abstract
The importance of chemotherapy in head and neck cancer has been increased by addition of Cisplatinum to the combinations. We present the results of Cisplatinum + 5-Fluorouracil combination in 36 patients with recurrent and advanced disease and in 17 previously untreated patients. All the patients regardless of their performance status or the extent of the disease were included in the study. Two complete remissions (CR) (11,7 %) and 9 partial remission (PR)were achieved in 17 previously untreated patients compared to 1 CR (2,7 %) and 8 PR (22,2 %) in 36 patients with recurrent and advanced disease. The response rates of the patients who were given radiotherapy before chemotherapy were compared with the response rates of the previo, usly untreated patients was significantly better than that of the patients who were previously treated with radiotherapy (P< 0,05).
