5-FU AND ALPHA-2A INTERFERON COMBINATION FOR ADVANCED COLORECTAL CARCINOMA

Abstract
In SSK Okmeydanı, Oncology Center in 1992 a prospective phase II study has been done to examine the efficiency of Fluorouracil and alpha-interferon combination on advanced colorectal cancer. At the beginning of the treatment on week one, the patient has been hospitalized and 5-FU 750 mg/mVday infusion for five days, alpha-interferon 10 m.ü. s.c. three times a week has been given. As a continuation treatment same doses of 5-FU bolus has been given weekly. Response to the treatment has been examined on 8th week on 14 patients. Remission on 4, minimal remission on 2, stabilization on 3 and progression on 5 of the patients has been seen. Median progression period of the patients is 5 months. It is necessary to increase the number of patients and to make randomized trials, in order to understand the real efficacy of this treatment which has very few toxicity and outpatient applicability except first week.
