Abstract
Keloids are fibroma like benign lesions which form in certain persons after a skin trauma, with excessive production of fibrous tissue, become hyalinized and do not regress spontaneously. Since the recurrence rate after excision is very high, local injections of triamsinalone and other steroids or early postoperative radiotherapy are being used in the treatment. In the present study brachytherapy was applied to four female cases with ear and ear lobe keloids within 24 hours after excision, with microSelectron HDR machine. Two fractions of 7.5 Gy (total 15 Gy) at daily intervals were given to the 85% of the basal dose point according to the Paris system. No recurrences or complications were observed during a follow-up period of 5-25 months (mean 13 months).
