Abstract
Methods based on fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) have established a link between molecular genetics and conventional cytogenetics. FISH-based methods have greatly enhanced the cytogenetic analysis of hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. Both of interest in FISH technologies has grown, and difficulties of conventional cytogenetics have provided the development of new FISH-based technologies such as multicolor karyotyping (multiplex FISH, spectral karyotyping), fiber FISH, comparative genomic hybridization, polypeptide nucleic acid probes and padlock probes.

Keywords: molecular cytogenetic techniques, cancer, fish, multicolour karyotyping
