Abstract
OBJECTIVES

The aim of this study was to determine the pretreatment levels of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in lung cancer patients.

METHODS

We investigated the serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 values in 20 lung cancer patients by ELISA and the results were compared with the controls (n=20).

RESULTS

MMP-9 (p<0.001) and TIMP-1 (p<0.001) values of patients were significantly higher than the controls.

CONCLUSION

Our data indicate that detection of serum levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 can be used as diagnostic parameters for lung cancer.
