The Education Board of the Medical Physics Society called on the members of the society in April 2024
to write up-to-date, practical and advisory reports for medical physics experts, including issues related to
quality control and quality assurance of devices and systems used in radiotherapy treatments throughout
the country. MFDGG-001 task group was formed among experienced and volunteer members and work
on the quality control and quality assurance report for treatment planning systems has started. This is a
brief summary report on the test contents and application methods of the comprehensive report, which
is currently being written and is planned to be published in 2025. The aim of MFDGG-001 is to create a
reliable and practical quality assurance program for treatment planning systems by writing a simple recommendation
in the native language on the quality control tests and methods recommended by international
guidelines. The quality control tests of treatment planning systems are grouped under the following
headings: classification of algorithms, verification of calculations under reference conditions, verification
of calculations under non-reference conditions, verification of dosimetric and mechanical multileaf collimator
parameters, electron density curve measurements, heterogeneity verification, end-to-end tests and
verification of dose volume histograms. For each test, the purpose of the test, how the test is performed,
the recommended frequency and tolerance range, if applicable, are specified. However, it should be kept
in mind that this report, which we think will fill the current gap related to treatment planning systems,
is a recommendation, and it should be noted that the implementation steps, test frequencies, acceptance
and intervention limits are the responsibility of medical physicists working in the clinic.
