Guide for Quality Control and Quality Assurance Tests in Medical Linear Accelerator

Abstract
The Turkish Medical Physics Society (TMPS) has established multiple task groups to create a quality control
and assurance program for radiotherapy treatment applications and planning equipment with the
objective of ensuring standardization in radiation oncology departments. This guideline summarizes the
recommended test content and application methods discussed in the main report. The MFD-GG007 report
aims to help responsible medical physicists in radiation oncology clinics create and implement a safe
and effective quality assurance program by standardizing the application of the critical quality control
test list and methods recommended in the company"s and international standards for linear accelerators
(Linac). A medical physicist needs to decide whether the proposed tests for Linac quality assurance are
suitable for the specific model and manufacturer used in clinical settings, adequate for clinical applications,
and sufficiently effective to identify potential errors. It is the responsibility of a medical physicist to
ascertain whether the tests proposed by Linac"s quality assurance in this guideline are suitable, adequate
for clinical applications, and effective enough to identify potential errors in the Linac model and manufacture
during clinical use. The responsible medical physicist must determine the variation, adequacy,
and selection of tolerance level and frequencies based on the Linac and the applied treatment techniques.
This guideline lists the tests recommended for Linac quality assurance in terms of application classification
(such as mechanical and dosimetric), discusses reference standards for monthly and annual measurements,
ensures Linac"s mechanical and geometric accuracy, and maintains its consistency.
