CYTOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS OF MALIGNANT TUMORS OF NASOPHARYNX, OROPHARYX AND ORAL CAVITY BY SMEAR TECHNIQUE

In this preliminary study, diagnostic capability of smear technique in head and neck tumors has been investigated. 18 patients with tumors of biopsy proved nasopharynx, oropharynx, oral cavity, head and neck region have been examined and smears have been taken by digital examination. In ten patients, malignant tumors and in six patients suspected malignant tumors .were radiognosed by smear examination. Smear examination however, ailed in rediagnosis of the malignant tumors in two patients. This study encouraged us to continue using this smear technique in patients with carcinomas of head and neck region.
