Abstract
A total of 118 early stage glottic carcinoma patients, 80 of whom were stage 1 and 38 stage 2 were treated by radical radiotherapy with curative intent. Following this primary treatment there had been % 13 and % 29 local failures in stages 1 and 2 respectively which did not show and correlation with total tumor doses and field sizes. 17 of these 21 (21:138, % 15) local failures had surgical salvage treatment. The 7 of 8, and 6 of 9 surgically salvaged stage 1 and stage 2 patients had complete clearence of the cancer. They are in follow up for 6-119 months with no evidence of disease after the surgical treatment. 10 year actuarial survival is % 92 and % 83 in stages 1 and 2 and % 89 in the sum of stage 1 and 2.
