Abstract
In this study the effect of HBO in prevention of full thickness skin necrosis, induced by cytostatic extravasation is investigated. Ten Wistar-Albino rats were used in the study group while another ten served as control. In both groups Adriblastina, (Doxorubicin, Adriamycin HCI), 6 mg/kg, (MLP/10) was injection, the animals in study group were given HBO treatment 2 ATA/90 min., twice a day with six hours room air interval for five consecutive days. A total of ten such treatments were applied. The animals in the control group were observed only with routine care. At the 7. day of the injections, in both groups the size of tissue destruction at the injection site was observed macroscopically and investigated histopathologically. Full thickness tissue necrosis was not observed and the tissue destruction was limited superficially in a small area in study group while in the control group a full-thickness skin and even subcutaneous tissue necrosis was observed to develop. The results suggest that HBO can be useful in the treatment and prevention of adriamycin induced skin necrosis.
