DISTRIBUTION OF PROSTATE SPESIFIC ANTIGEN AND PROSTATIC ACID PHOSPHATASE IN PROSTATIC ADENOCARCINOMAS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE GLEASON GRADING SYSTEM

Abstract
Forty-four prostatic adenocarcinoma cases were analyzed for distribution of prostate spesific antigen (PSA) and prostatic acid posphatase in paraffin embedded tissue by immunohistochemical techniques. In 36 of the 44 cases positive immunostaining was found for PSA monoclonal antibody and in 37 of the 44 cases positive immunostaining was found for PAP monoclonal antibody. Staining intensity of both markers were reduced as differentiation decreased. But, this finding was not statistically significant. Although PSA and PAP immunostaining was positive in 81.8% and 84.1% of the prostatic adenocarcinoma cases respectively, the negativity of the immunostaining does not rule out the possibility of prostatic origin especially in high grade tumors.
