THE RELATION BETWEEN CLINICAL AND PATHOLOGICAL STAGES AND SURVIVAL RATES OF INCIDENTAL RENAL CELL CARCINOMA

New imaging techniques have resulted in an increase in diagnosis of the incidence of renal cell carcinoma. The aim of the study was to investigate the relation between the clinical and pathological stages of the incidental renal cell carcinomas. Between January 1990 and November 1996, twenty seven patients diagnosed as incidental renal cell carcinoma in our department and their records were reviewed retrospectively. They were clinically and pathologically staged according to TNM classification by USG and CT. The men follow-up was 38.74±25.6 (12-93) months and survival rate of thirteen patients with a five year follow-up was 61.5%. We observed that the incidental renal cell carcinomas did not always have a lesser diameter and stage although they had a better prognosis.
