A study of reliability and validity for the Turkish version of children's international mucositisis evaluation scale for children with cancer

Abstract
OBJECTIVES

This study was conducted to test the reliability and validity
of “Children's International Mucositis Evaluation Scale
(ChIMES)” for Turkish society.


METHODS

The study sample consisted of 60 children who were taking
chemotherapy in oncology and hemathology clinics of four
hospitals. The participants were chosen from those who complied
with the inclusion criteria and consented to participate in
the study. The study data were collected with an “information
form” specially designed for pediatric oncology patients and
ChIMES. The study includes a Turkish translation of ChIMES
and a reliability and validity test.


RESULTS

Average age of the pediatric oncology patients in the study
was found to be 12.76±2.93. The mean total score of the scale
was found to be 20.95±18.93. Cronbach Alpha Reliability Coefficient
of the scale was 0.91, correlation coefficient of total
scores ranging from was 0.68-0.88.


CONCLUSION

As a result, was found to be valid and reliable for Turkish form
of ChIMES.
