Quantitative assessment of radionuclide pain palliaton: case report

Abstract
In this study, the role of whole body bone scintigraphy has
been investigated on patient applied pain palliation theraphy
along with Samarium-153 in term of responding to
treatment. A 73-year-old male patient diagnosed with lung
and rectal cancers and taking chemotheraphy and radiotheraphy
complained about his severe back ang leg pain. On
whole body bone scintigraphy, increased heterogeneous osteoblastic
activity position compitable with bone of skeletal
system with metastaes is seen on L1 lumbar spine vertebral
process, L2 lumbar spine corpus vertabre, sacrum and left
proximal femur. When sixth month and initial scan compared,
40.6% decrease in L1 and L2 vertebral metastases
along with 18.4% increase in sacrum metastasid activity
have been seen. In addition to whole body bone scan scintigraphy
applied initially, control scintigraphy was thought
to help to evaluate the effectiveness of radionuclide pain
palliation theraphy.
